I don’t always take pre-workout….but when I do….I opt for these favorites.
The great part about my top five pre-workout list is that I might have attached the fact that they’re intermittent fasting friendly to the title to help you guys out; but they’re also my top five overall as well.
Flavor, usability, pump, and more!
These are definitely my go-to all around.
It just so happens that their lack of calories (which usually come in the form of some carbohydrates to either sweeten pre-workouts or give you an extra boost of energy to run on) makes them nice to pair with our recommended intermittent fasting.
If you need help getting started with that you can check out our Official SHJ Intermittent Fasting Guide or head over to our Nutrition Pillars for some extra information.
Before we start, you should know that some of my go-to pre-workout options (that are also intermittent fasting and keto friendly) are:
- Black Coffee (w/ some sweetener)
- Or espresso like this one usually does the trick as well!
- Suggested Article: Are Artificial Sweeteners Bad For You?
- Monster Ultra
- Alternative Option/Preference: Amazon’s Option
These options obviously don’t give you the extra boost that you’ll find in pre-workouts, but I find them to be more than enough 99% of the time.
And I’m a huge caffeine aficionado!
That being said, let’s get into my top five that don’t include these options.
1. Cellucor C4 Pre-Workout
I personally prefer the regular with either the Icy Blue Razz or Pink Lemonade flavor, but they’re all pretty awesome.
This one has always been a top choice of mine considering the fact that it tastes awesome, does the job, and usually beats competitors price points all at the same time.
That being said, they also have a couple other options you can choose from (and I’ll also re-list the original for you):
- Original C4 Pre-Workout
- C4 Pre-Workout Ripped
- C4 Pre-Workout Sport
- C4 Pre-Workout Extreme Energy
- C4 Pre-Workout Ultimate
And there’s even a handful more Cellucor “pre-workout” products you can choose from, but this list will definitely suffice.
Especially considering I was originally only listing the first one.
2. Ghost Legend Pre-Workout
Ghost is a master of flavors and effectiveness.
The ONLY reason you’ll see them come in at number two in some categories is that due to their awesomeness, they do tend to be slightly higher in price.
I will admit that I have skipped Ghost on some orders just because I feel like I can get some awesome flavoring and effectiveness with a little less hit on the wallet, BUT, when I need a go-to for the BEST flavors guaranteed, they are it.
Want to really get a good pump?
Feeling like you need more of a pick-me-up than usual?
This one is my choice; unless of course you already decided on a one of the heavier boost C4 options above due to their awesome price range.
You can grab some of their pre-workout here.
3. PEScience Prolific Pre-Workout
I first tried out PEScience because they have thick protein with some awesome flavors to mix into my oatmeal.
I personally prefer their cake pop protein flavor for this, and I add in blueberries.
It’s literally dessert…
That led me to, being the guinea pig I am, wanting to try out their pre-workout as well.
And, I was pleasantly surprised that they have both amazing protein AND pre-workout.
Usually I find that brands can master one or the other, but PEScience (and ON, which is below) proved me wrong.
You can grab some of their pre-workout here.
4. Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Pre-Workout
The only reason this one isn’t higher up on the list is because it has 10 calories in it.
And, as you’ll see with the next pre-workout, I don’t even like having 5-10 calories on my fast (although I do make some exceptions).
As many of you may know: I am an Optimum Nutrition fanboy.
I have been using their products for years and years, and swear by their protein.
You just can’t beat their prices based on the quality of product you get.
This pre-workout goes down to around $15-20, and sometimes even drops under that on Amazon.
It’s a no brainer if you want to just pick up a quick “I know this is a great product” pre-workout.
You can grab some of their pre-workout here.
5. BPI BEST Pre-Workout
I’m specifically mentioning BPI’s BEST Pre-Workout because it’s ketogenic friendly.
It actually is specifically made to support a ketogenic diet.
That being said, it’s not my top option for intermittent fasting, but rather a keto diet or intermittent KETO fast.
Hopefully those of you specifically here for intermittent fasting and no other variations of it don’t miss that line.
The reason for this is the fact that it does actually have 40 calories in it.
I don’t even like having 5-10 calories on my fast, personally, so this option isn’t really for me.
BUT, it is super inexpensive, tastes great (in my opinion) and will support your keto diet or keto fast nicely.
You can grab some here.
And there you have it.
These are not only my Top Five Pre-Workouts, but they’re also my Top 5 Pre-Workouts for Intermittent Fasting and keto as well!
I don’t always use pre-workouts (actually most of the time I opt for Monster Ultra, black coffee, or espresso), but when I do I go with one of these.
But, to make that more clear, I was using pre-workout for YEARS prior to making that swap over to simply running on caffeine choices like I mentioned above; but now I prefer to keep it on standby for when I really could use the extra kick in the butt [to get to the gym].
