Steve Alcazar, MD, is an assistant professor in the Kirk
Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Psychiatry and
Behavioral Health. Having completed his undergraduate studies in
cell and molecular biology at UNLV, Dr. Alcazar earned his
medical degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2019. He
then completed both his residency in general psychiatry and his
fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Kirk
Kerkorian School of Medicine.
Dr. John Anooshian, an associate professor in the Kirk Kerkorian
School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Psychiatry and
Behavioral Health, received his medical degree from the
University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine.
Anooshian completed his general psychiatric residency at the
University of Hawaii School of Medicine.
Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology, he is medical director and senior psychiatrist at the
UNLV Health Mojave Counseling Center.
Board-certified in general psychiatry, Caitlin Chen, DO, is an
assistant professor in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at
UNLV Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. Dr. Chen
completed her undergraduate studies in biology and psychology at
Wellesley College. In 2019, she earned her medical degree from
Touro University Nevada, which she followed up with a residency
in general psychiatry at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine.
Afterwards, Dr. Chen completed her fellowship in forensic
psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University.
Weiming David Chu, MD, FAPA, is an associate professor in the
Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Department of
Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. A graduate of the Ross
University School of Medicine, Dr. Chu completed his adult
psychiatry residency at the University of Nevada, Reno School of
Medicine and followed this up with a child and adolescent
psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, Irvine
School of Medicine. Dr.
Lisa Durette, MD, graduated from the University of South Carolina
School of Medicine and completed both a general psychiatry
residency and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the
Medical University of South Carolina. She is board certified in
general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry by the
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as in
addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventative
Medicine. Dr.
Althea was born in Jamaica, West Indies. She lived in New York
upon migration but has been a resident of Las Vegas for the past
23 years.
She has worked in the social service field for over 28 years and
dedicated the past twenty years to serving people with Serious
Mental Health Conditions.
Irene is a psychiatric nurse practitioner that has spent her
career treating patients at UNLV Medicine Mojave Counseling with
severe and persistent mental illness. She worked at Mojave as a
student nurse and returned to start her career there.
Susanna was born in Miami, Florida but has resided in Las Vegas,
NV for 36 years. At a young age, she expressed a desire to help
people. After high school, she went on to attend College of
Southern Nevada (CSN) and graduate with an Associate of Arts
degree. She then went on to pursue a degree in Social Work at
UNLV and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social
Work (BSW).
Sarah Haggerty is a Las Vegas native who graduated from UNLV with
a Master of Science in Counseling and an Advanced Graduate
Certificate in Rehabilitation Counseling.
She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has been
practicing for 18 years.
Sarah provides therapy with individuals, couples, families and
groups in English and Spanish. She has done work for a local
hospice, children’s cancer charity, the Mexican Consulate and had
a private practice. Sarah now works for UNLV Health Mojave
Counseling at the youth clinic.
Mason Jahnke, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry and clerkship
director at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, earned
his medical degree at Oregon Health and Science University. Dr.
Jahnke completed his psychiatry residency at the University of
Mississippi Medical Center, where he received the Bo Holloman
Award for dedication to patient service, an award for medical
student education, and served as a resident ambassador and the
resident ambassador coordinator. His clinical interests include
outpatient psychiatry and education.
Stuart was born in Burbank, CA and grew up in Coronado, CA. He
graduated from San Diego State University in 2009 with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
Eden Lee, MD, is an assistant professor in the Kirk Kerkorian
School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Psychiatry and
Behavioral Health. Born in the Philippines, Dr. Lee received her
medical degree from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences
Institute and completed her residency in psychiatry at
MetroHealth Medical Center, an affiliate of Case Western Reserve
University.
Garnette has provided individual and family therapy services for
the last 21 years. She specializes in trauma, grief, mood and
anxiety disorders. She treats children, adolescents and adults
with a variety of mental health and medical
concerns. Garnette specialized in grief working in the
hospice field for 16 years prior to transitioning into trauma and
foster/adoption care for the past 15 years. Garnette has
experience treating individuals who have experienced trauma,
reactive attachment, fetal alcohol syndrome and severe anxiety as
well as supporting their caregivers.
Karrin is a Day Treatment Program Counselor that works with
people with Serious Mental Health to assist them to live more
fulfilling lives.
She earned a Master of Science Degree in Psychology from
California Lutheran University.
Karrin believes that every day is an opportunity for excellence.
She enjoys being creative whether it’s through music, dance,
crochet, or painting.
Alison Netski, MD, is the vice dean
of clinical affairs and professor
of psychiatry at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at
UNLV. Board certified from the American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology in psychiatry
and psychosomatic medicine, Dr.
Netski specializes in the treatment of adults with a broad
range of psychiatric illness including mood, psychotic, and
anxiety disorders.
Sarah has been a Day Treatment Program Counselor with UNLV Health
Mojave Counseling since 2002. She is a graduate of the University
of Montana where she completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.
She facilitates groups related to independence skills, anger
management, healthy lifestyles, and coping skills.
Shelby is a native of Southern Nevada. She attended the
University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she studied psychology,
marriage and family therapy, and social work. She earned her
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Family Studies
(2016) and her Master’s degree in Social Work (2021). During her
graduate training, she worked with Clark County School District
and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Shelby has
experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with
complex trauma histories.
Syed Quadri, MD, earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the
University of Illinois Chicago. After graduating, he attended
medical school at St. James School of Medicine, while earning a
master’s degree in public health. Dr. Quadri continued his
education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where
he completed three years of psychiatry training and has been
published in various psychiatric journals.
Elizabeth Robinson graduated from the University of Nevada, Las
Vegas in December of 2015 with a bachelor of arts (BA) in
Sociology. Upon graduation she started working in the mental
health field as a Registered Behavior Technician treating
autistic children.
She also worked as a Qualified Mental Health Associate doing
psychosocial rehabilitation with children, young adults, and
seniors.
Elizabeth is currently full time employed as a Day Treatment
Counselor with UNLV Health Mojave Counseling.
John was born and raised in a suburb of Philadelphia, PA. John
earned his B.S. in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University
in 1986.
Jason Schwartz holds a BASW from the University of Nevada, Las
Vegas (UNLV) and a Terminal Master’s degree in Social Psychology
from the University of California, Santa Cruz. His career in
social work began in 1975 as a VISTA volunteer, where he
dedicated 30 hours per week to supporting youth at a runaway
hostel.
David is the director of the First Episode Psychosis (FEP)
program through UNLV Health Mojave Counseling. David completed
his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2006 and his Master’s
Degree in Social Work in 2011 at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Faisal Suba, MD, who completed his psychiatry residency program
at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, is an
assistant professor of psychiatry at the Kirk Kerkorian School of
Medicine at UNLV.
Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology, Dr. Suba received a certification in electroconvulsive
therapy (ECT) from Duke University. He is one of the founders,
and managing partners, of Alliance Mental Health Specialists, as
well as one of the medical directors at Talas Harbor Behavioral
Health Hospital.

Kathy’s leadership at Mojave Counseling, a role she has held
since June 2022, is a testament to her managerial skills and
dedication to the field. Her journey at Mojave began in 1996 as a
psychiatric case manager, and she later obtained her MSW degree
in social work with a focus on administration in 2000. She
furthered her qualifications by obtaining her LCSW and has been
practicing as a therapist for 19 years. Her experience includes
treating children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of
mental health concerns.
Dr. Jonathan Wirjo, an associate professor in the Kirk Kerkorian
School of Medicine at UNLV Department of Psychiatry and
Behavioral Health, received his medical degree from Western
University Health Sciences.
He completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of
Nevada Reno School of Medicine.
Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology, Dr. Wirjo is chair of psychiatry at Mountain
View Hospital. Dr. Wirjo treats patients on the psychiatry
consultation service at UMC hospital.
In 1992, after a state budget cut resulted in many employees in
the mental health field being laid off, there was a worrying lack
of services for those in the Las Vegas community that struggled
with severe and persistent mental illness. As a direct response
to this, Mojave Counseling – an outpatient mental
health program – was founded in the same year by Jim Parcells and
Michael Howie.
