Where is the viral TikTok song 'Bad Hair Day' from?

Had this song running on a loop in your head all day? Well this is where the viral song 'mousse ain't sticking' aka 'bad hair day' comes from.

I don't know about you, but the only thing that has been running through my brain in the last 72 hours is the sound of a kid singing about having a bad hair day. Seriously, forget work responsibilities, life admin, or texting my friends back, the only thing playing on repeat in my head is that silly song and it's all thanks to TikTok.

In case you've not heard it (you need to btw) the song 'Bad Hair Day' goes like this: "Just to hear my brother say 'Yo what’s up fuzznut?' / Mousse ain’t stickin’, water ain’t slickin’/ It looks like a feather from the back end of a chicken/ I ain’t gonna use no silly hair spray."

There's also an accompanying dance routine that we are yet to master.

This isn't the first time we've been addicted to a viral TikTok song. For month's we couldn't get Meghan Trainor's 'Made You Look' and its matching dance routine out of our heads, or FYPs. And then recently it was Raye's 'Escapism' that we had playing on repeat thanks to its promenence on TikTok.

But now this most recent song, and it's associated hashtag 'badhairdaysong' which has had 17.3 million views, isn't even by a big music artist, it's actually a kids song from New Zealand.

Yep, that's right according to people on TikTok the song is called 'Bad Hair Day' and kids would sing it in school assemblies. It was written by John Phillips and he wrote the song nearly 20 years ago in 2004.

One person captioned their TikTok: "POV you went to primary school in New Zealand" and another said: "Nah I remember the assemblies where you had to sing these songs."

The sound has now made its way over to many other countries' FYPs and many people are joking and complaining about the types of songs they would sing in assembly versus this.

One person said: "So you're telling me us UK kids were singing 'he's got the whole world in his hands' and NZ had this."

Another said: "In the UK we sang songs about cauliflowers being fluffy whilst New Zealnd had this banger?" Now, I don't remember any songs about cauliflowers but they are right - it is a banger.

The soon to be classic song is currently not on any streaming platforms, but a full version, complete with four verses, is available on YouTube.

Will be listening on repeat.
