Our family absolutely devours these sweet potato fries! They’re unbelievably easy to make, and I love how the outside gets perfectly caramelized and crispy while the middles stay irresistibly sweet and tender.

I bake my sweet potato fries in the oven. They aren’t as crispy as fried fries, but they are healthier and still taste incredible. I don’t peel my sweet potatoes. Instead, I scrub them clean under cold water.
It is up to you how chunky you want the fries to be. I like thin and crispy, so we cut them pretty thin. To do it, I slice the sweet potato into slabs and then cut the slabs into thin fries. Watch our video to see me do it.
Toss the fries with oil, salt, and pepper, then spread them onto lined baking sheets. The trick to crispy baked sweet potato fries is to give them lots of space in the oven. Don’t crowd them too much on the baking sheet; otherwise, they will steam instead of crisp up. I also preheat my baking sheets, which gives our fries a head start in the oven.
I bake the sweet potato fries in a 425°F oven until browned and crisp. Depending on how large you cut them, they will take between 15 and 25 minutes. Keep an eye on them while they bake so they don’t over brown.
Serve these delicious oven-baked sweet potato fries with burgers, veggie burgers, Caesar salad, sandwiches, and turkey meatloaf. My son also loves these with homemade fish sticks and chicken nuggets.
Depending on your favorite dipping sauce, you can make a homemade sauce alongside them. I love homemade ketchup, mayonnaise, or this creamy honey mustard sauce. This garlic aioli would also be amazing! And don’t forget fry sauce!
This is my favorite sweet potato fries recipe. They have caramelized edges and tender middles. Watch our recipe video to see how we cut sweet potatoes into fries. I keep the skins on for sweet potato fries, but if you prefer them without, you can peel them.
Makes 4 Servings
4 medium sweet potatoes 3 tablespoons avocado oil or olive oil 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C). Set aside two baking sheets. The fries caramelize more when placed directly onto the baking sheet, but you can line them with aluminum foil for easier cleanup.
2Place baking sheets into the oven so that they preheat.
3Slice the sweet potatoes into 1/2-inch sticks. Add them to a large bowl and toss with the oil, salt, and pepper.
4Remove the preheated baking sheets from the oven, and divide the sweet potatoes between them. Spread the fries out. Try not to crowd them, or else they will not brown.
5Bake the sweet potato fries, turning once and rotating pans once, until the edges are lightly browned and the centers are tender, 15 to 25 minutes. Sweet potato fries are done when the surface looks dry and puffy. Don’t worry if the edges turn brown. They taste more caramelized than burnt.
6Serve fries with your favorite dipping sauce and an extra sprinkle of salt.
