Tanning body but not face?

I'm sure this sounds stupid, but does anybody go to the tanning bed and just tan your body, and not your face?  I get bad melasma on my face when it's exposed to the sun, so I'd rather go with a self-tanning product for my face and use the bed for my body.

A friend of mine did this. She would use a piece of fabric (normally the shirt she wore on her way there) over her face. You just have to move it on your neck several times to avoid a line.

I cover my face halfway through.

I do that. I always wear sunblock on my face and also cover it with a towel when I tan. I just wear makeup and bronzer to match my tan. It's not like I get so dark that it's weird looking anyway. I want to avoid wrinkles as long as possible!

I don't tan anymore. I used to tan all the time (in my 20's) but I got skin cancer and my Dr. said they are seeing more and more lately due to tanning beds. But when I did, I covered my face half way through.

Now I just use self tanners.

  • I used to do that when I tanned. Dh is the opposite.. he covers his body and tans his face! I tease him that it is his socially acceptable way of wearing makeup. Smile

I had a roomate that did this, she said so she wouldnt get wrinkles. I tried it but I felt too clausterphobic covering my face while in an oven.

Sounds like lots of people do it!

  • Why not try spray tanning your whole body?

I almost died in 2009 from skin cancer and it breaks my heart to read about anyone tanning....even strangers. :(

Thanks ladies! I'll do the sunscreen on my face since I'll be using the booths that you stand in...makes it hard to tan my body evenly while holding a cloth over my face Tongue out

  • I have a tanning bed and yes I do it all the time! I cover my face but tan the body... What I dont understand is that even though the face is covered it just feels like the rays somehow still affect my facial skin, I wish I had someone to confirm that for me.
I know what you are thinking.. "Wear sunblock!" Well I moisturize but never wear sunblock because sometimes the face needs a ray of Sun! The real thing i mean .. (Not the tanning bed one)...
Some sun is healthy for the face.. Of course not too much..
But yea im starting not to even wanna tan anymore since i noticed the skin on my arms turn a lil snakeskin.. But i dont wanna be powder pasty white either since that doesnt look that attractive... And fake spray tans dont last long and look fake..So thats my dilemma... Anyways im startin to ramble... Anyways yea always cover your face when tanning and avoid alcohol! Its the worst for your facial skin!

My BFF used to go tanning and found skin cancer this year.

Nothing wrong with being pale. It is like no culture is happy. White people tan while others cover up to avoid the sun or bleach. I wear my pasty white skin proudly. I see it as a sign of health because tanning is deadly.
