Thoughts on new short block or rebore original block

My Type R WRX STI V3 has some issues with the engine. Basically it needs a new one. I am tempted to buy the Subaru short block with the thicker walls as sold by RCM and ICP as these are complete with new pistons, rods, crank and new block. These are capable of handling more power...

My Type R WRX STI V3 has some issues with the engine. Basically it needs a new one. I am tempted to buy the Subaru short block with the thicker walls as sold by RCM and ICP as these are complete with new pistons, rods, crank and new block. These are capable of handling more power as well. I could most probably get my original block machined etc and buy the new parts. The thing is the cost of this wouldn't be far off or similar to buying the new short block.
I don't want to decrease the value of my car and wondered on members thoughts on weather they would be turned off a potential purchase of a car that had a new short block fitted instead of the original block. I would keep the original block to give to any potential future purchaser's.
Just wanted to gauge opinion before I decide what to do.

i personally would rather a subaru built new short block than rebuilt unless done buy the top guys building these. at least with the Subaru built one its still factory spec if your looking at it as a originality type, the earlier 01-02 short block assembly was stronger to btw over the thick block variant.

Hi @benji yes the new short block is what I would prefer. I don't want to decrease the value though so opinions matter. Are you referring to the closed deck blocks. If so are these available as a new short block. There are some short blocks for sale that have been built by reputable Subaru specialists.
Another question for everyone, would a closed deck block as a replacement turn people off?

Possible overheating and higher temps with cdb instead of scdb.

Sorry but thats simply incorrect........ built correctly there should be no difference at all between the 3x engine styles - Open, Semi Closed & Closed Deck
As Alyn will tell you too all I meant was the internals are actually better for higher output in the earlier new ages scd over the new thicker wall version.
I don't think any one would be put off if it's bought from Subaru as assy or likes of as performance or tdr etc put it together with oe parts if value was a thing in your mind,

Hi @benji yes I think a New short block makes a lot of sense, it's certainly my preference. Thanks for your input
And the 'thick wall' casing isn't at all what people claim it is in terms of strength.....
