I am a sophomore at Corning Painted Post High School, and I think my school is great. There are lots of new people every year and it's easy to make friends. The town is great, and I think it's really cool that people come all over the world just to see something I live a mile away from. Which of course is the Corning Glass Museum. People get in there for free if you are under the age of 17. There are good job opportunities around where I live and the town is beautiful. One of my favorite parts has to be the restaurants on the most famous street which is Market Street. There are so many great and delightful places to go to, including small businesses, even book/clothing shops and more.
Corning is a great small town. It is very safe and affordable and has a diverse selection of races and classes of people as well as jobs. The food is fantastic and if you love nature there is a lot to offer very close by. Corning is great.
Nestled in the heart of this quaint city are numerous delightful venues for socializing with friends and family, from the inviting ambiance of Market St to the scenic local trails, and the winter charm of ice skating. Throughout the year, Corning hosts a myriad of town events, ensuring there's always something engaging happening in every season. The Corning Museum of Glass stands as a testament to the city's rich history and developmental journey.
In Corning, the community spirit thrives, creating an environment where friendliness is a hallmark of daily interactions. Whether strolling through the town's charming streets or indulging in a shopping spree, the atmosphere is marked by a genuine and hospitable demeanor. This creates a unique and appealing backdrop, making Corning not just a city but a warm and welcoming community.
Review Corning
Corning has the quintessential small town feel. The people who live there are friendly and you can pick up a conversation with anyone. The town has many festivals and parades throughout the year that bring the community together. The town looks like it belongs on the Hallmark Channel during the holidays. I would only like to see more community programs.
Corning is a very small town with not much to do. Market street is cute, but boring after a year. So many hair styling shops not enough good restaurants. So many cameras on market street and the bridge its like big brother. Everyone works for “the company” or their brother/sister/mother works there. It’s a small town where people have nothing to do but play power games, lie and complain. Seasons are black ice in winter, flash floods in spring, drought and pests in summer (gypsy moths, June beetles, ticks with Lyme) and pretty fall colors. Summers are awesome when you leave Corning for the lakes. Close by Elmira has a prison, drug problems and downtown never recovered after the big flood.
Housing prices are lower than other parts of NY but the taxes are really high. Awful schools my son is bullied, bad healthcare. The good daycares have year long waitlists. Lots of contamination at parks where our children play and in yards near the museum.
I lived near corning my whole life its a great place for kids, and there is a great high school. But there not really that much to do, and if all your friends live in Corning and you don't its kind of hard, and you feel like you aren't apart of your community.
I like how we have lots of things to do downtown with Market Street and the local museums and Corning is close enough to the Finger Lakes and Rochester.
Corning is overall a very good town to live in. It provides great public schools for children to attend.
I’ve lived here my entire life and growing up here was never a problem! There’s plenty to do and it’s a fairly safe place to raise a family. The weather kinda sucks and it’s a pretty conservative town which is a negative for me.
I’ve lived in Corning for most of my life. There’s a lot to do in terms of both outdoor and indoor activities (trails, fishing / kayaking, museums, local stores) and it has a good history. However, it can be hard for kids growing up because it’s small and the economic differences between families is very conspicuous. I’m grateful for growing up there, but it’s not somewhere I’d live for my whole life. It’s a decent drive to get to a bigger city (at least an hour from Rochester, 2.5 from Buffalo and Syracuse, etc.) but if you like a small-town feel with great views, it’s worth it.
I love the Corning area. Walking Market Street is a great way to see many different cultures and experience different food. For the most part people are really friendly. Corning has a lot of educational places like the Rockwell Museum and the Corning Glass.
Nowhere I would rather have grown up! I have lived here my entire life and everything about it is exciting and fun!
Lots of things to do in the downtown area, between shopping and restaurants. Ability to go to nearby Big Flats further opens shopping opportunities, but any good large malls are going to really be in Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo (1.5+ hours away). Corning-Painted Post High School is great for academics; lots of classes available at varying levels, from regents to IB and AP. Corning Incorporated is headquartered nearby, with Sullivan Park being very close; this presents lots of opportunities for STEM job shadows and interns. BOCES program run through the school has lots of trades that it teaches. Weather is good, typical temperate climate with hot summers and cold winters. Upstate New York, so land price is fairly low if you want to buy property, lake house, etc. and taxes aren't as bad as in larger cities.
Corning offers many opportunities for learning (Art Councils, Library System, Museums) and hands-on experiences (Museum activities, free or affordable art classes at the Art Galleries and Library) along with physical activity (i.e. walking, biking, skateboarding, jogging). It is safe to walk alone any time of day. Most activity in the business district (aka Gaffer District) occurs from 7:00am-1:00am. Friendly atmosphere with local merchants, tourists and residents of the area.
Review Corning
The Corning Museum of Glass, was a once in a lifetime experience. You can go and watch shows and learn things about glass you never thought possible. There is also a live demonstration of blowing glass. No only is the Museum their the town is very friendly and close knit. It was just a wonderful experience overall!
Small town charm, always something to do with your friends. Clean, quiet and happy place to live. Town is safe to be in with no run down areas. Plenty of parks, places to take your kids.
It was a very good place to live in, depending which area of Corning you lived in. If you lived in the lower side of Corning, there tends to be more families who live in trailer homes and more unsafe circumstances. If you lived in the better off neighborhoods, it was considered a more safe and visually appealing, along with large price differences in housing. Not many things to do, but you could always take a walk since there is a pretty scene in the middle of Corning. Since this place is known for where the glass company Corning started, the CMOG museum is also a big highlight. Overall a good place to live but sometimes burglaries happen occasionally.
